The Ministry of Justice has seen fit to reject Reading Borough Council’s bid for the Gaol. The Ministry gave the Council just 3 months to put together the bid. They then took two months to decide that they wanted more money. The council have announced that their offer is still on the table.
They have now released details of their bid to the public. The bid includes “enabling development” – possibly housing – necessary in order to raise the money to buy the site and develop the arts hub. The bid can be viewed here.
Council Refuses to Give Up on Reading Gaol Bid
The Council has expressed its extreme disappointment after the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) indicated that the town’s bid to transform Reading Gaol into a beacon of arts, heritage and culture has been rejected, but has vowed to keep its bid alive as a future option.
