OSCAR is a multidisciplinary creative hub designed by Kirstin Sinclair (@ksinclair.design) to transform the site of the former Reading Prison from an unwelcoming institution, to a buzzing artistic haven full of performance and inspiration. Kirstin recently graduated with a first-class honours degree in Interior Architecture and Design. OSCAR is her final porfolio project.
The site of Reading Prison has an interesting history that is being respected and showcased through the addition of a history centre to the site. Notably, the notorious poet and author Oscar Wilde was incarcerated in the prison. This has been an inspirational aspect of this project and has influenced key aspects such as target audience selection, branding and aesthetic choices.
The site would include two theatres, a school of music, artists studios, galleries, a radio station, museum and an abundance of communal social spaces.
